Four Top Budget and Upper Scale Restaurants

Any trip to England has got to include a visit to London’s Covent Garden. Located near the famous West End area in Westminster, this prestigious, historical and well-known region of London is home to not only the nation’s best theatres, but to some fantastic places to eat, surrounding the Theatre District.

Whether you’re eating on a budget or you want to go to relatively posh/medium-price range restaurants, quality is not compromised here. These are all close to famous theatres such as the Wyndham’s Theatre and are perfect for a meal prior to a show. Here is a brief overview that will touch on four very different restaurants. First the low cost options;

  • Wagamama
  • Food for Thought

Wagamama:

A famous British-owned 150 restaurant chain has one specialty of the house - well almost. Its main offering is pan-fried-Asian food ala modern Japanese Ramen bar style. To borrow from its company slogan, Wagamama is great at "combining fresh and nutritious food in an elegant yet simple setting with helpful, friendly service and value for money".

Food For Thought:

 Found at Covent Gardens, is one of the best vegetarian budget restaurants found near
Wyndham’s Theatre. Specializing in classic vegetarian dishes, it has now also gone “vegan”, meaning strict vegetarian. The price range is definitely “budget,” but the quality of food is not, as only the freshest fruit and veggie items are to be found here.

Below are two top rated, upper scale restaurants and all within a short distance from Wyndham’s Theatre District.

  • J Sheekey Restaurant
  • Atelier de Joel Robuchon

J Sheekey Restaurant:

 An aristocratic seafood specialty house is almost as well-known for its culinary offering as for its innovative and distinctive decor. The ambiance created by designer Martin Brudnizki’s innovative styling is that of a glamorous speakeasy. Visitors will be awe struck by the wood panelling, artistically stressed mirrors & monochrome celebrity portraits. Then, they feast on the delectable Cumbrae rock oysters and classic crab bisque. Moreover, Sheekey’s fish pie has made this restaurant legendary.

Atelier de Joel Robuchon:

This is an award-winning place of French eating is another “must” eatery to be found in Covent Gardens. What one connoisseur described as “a hot dining experience,” is actually a combination of Spanish/French cooking with Japanese overtones. A true culinary jewel in the West End, visitors will be taken back by pig trotter on Parmesan toast, a mini-burger offering which highlights beef and foie gras and mackerel on thinly cut tarts, generously covered with shavings of Parmesan and olives. The food, wine selection, service and decor: all of the first order.
