Beautiful Driftwood Sculptures

Jeff Uitto, an artist on the coast of Washington state, makes stunningly attractive sculptures out of driftwood.

On the Washington coast there’s a place where nature’s leftovers get a second chance at stardom. The place is Knock on Wood, and Jeffro Uitto is the artist making the magic happen. Since high school Jeffro has been creating with wood, his favorite medium. This stuff isn’t from a lumber mill either. Each piece is found and rescued from the shores of Tokeland, the banks of Smith Creek, or the valleys between the Willapa Hills. In due time the varied sticks, slabs, and roots are cured and then found a fitting home.

Amazing Kinetic Installation by Yasutoki Kariya

Take a look at fantastic kinetic installation named "Asobi" (play) by Yasutoki Kariya. This kinetic construction shows a transference of light and movement coming from one end to a group of bulbs towards the other, just like the well-known pendulum desk gadget having its form and motion. As a result of switching the steel marbles with bulbs, we're given that additional level of visual push in the form of illumination. You should definitely look at video down the page, to check out the installation in action.

Sculptures by Showichi Kaneda

Showichi Kaneda mixes designs of Formula One vehicles together with marine predators such as sharks and huge squid in his "Human's Own Evo" series. His work exhibits at well-known locations for instance the Tokyo Gallery. Covering nature and creatures together with well-known brand logos isn't a fresh idea, but Showichi Kaneda manages to do it with such elegance that it is difficult not to imagine these kinds of "racing sea animals" contesting in race activities under the waves somewhere.

Illuminated Glass Skeleton

This phenomenal skeleton sculpture, "Embodiment" is created by sculptor Eric Franklin. The glass skeleton you can see down the page is completely hollow and filled up with ionized krypton, which causes it to glow just like a neon light. The item required more than 1, 000 hours of work during a two year period and also consists of 10 individual parts. Each and every part had to be sculpted separately by flameworking borosilicate glass before getting carefully put together into the whole skeleton you see below.
