The DZ-Series from Singapore-based Kohjinsha has put an end to that limited thinking, by launching a laptop with sliding, dual screens. The two TFT LCD 10.1-inch screens slide out from the centre to work together as one seamless whole. Well, seamless but for the dividing frame. Slide the two screens back into the centre – one behind the other – to use as a standard one-screened laptop. Clever stuff.
First shown off at CEATEC in Japan, the DZ series is now available from Japan for around £675. A further £35 will get you the 32-bit Windows 7, and about £45 will get it shipped over within 3 weeks if you place your order today. There’s a 160GB hard drive, 1.3-megapixel cam and a claimed 4.5-hour battery life- although we can only presume that using both screens intensively will shave this down quite a bit.
Also, whilst this might be groundbreaking and impressive for desk use, we wouldn’t recommend extending the screens out whilst on the train; those to either side might not appreciate it.
