Bannerman Island Ruins

This specific castle looking building, placed on Pollepel Island is merely 50 miles northern of New York, on the Hudson River. I said castle looking as it isn't even a castle. In the photos you will find listed below are the remains of the forgotten army excess storage facility created by Francis Bannerman. Bannerman had found its way to America in 1854. An immigrant coming from Scotland, he had grown up hugely wealthy from reselling army excess. The Spanish-American war of 1898 has been especially beneficial to Bannerman because he managed to obtain almost all of the Spanish army gear left behind in their escape from Cuba.

 Nevertheless, his storage facility in the center of New York happen to be too unsafe location to store that quantity of equipment. Once in the apartment, fully immersed in the past in times of knights,
because the apartment - this is a real castle. Really liked the front door as the gate.

Columns Eagle Castle
What highlights this castle star? Eagle Nebula, known to many, brightly lit simultaneously in different colors. Today's picture was made up of frames received in the light of three of these colors. The contours of the columns of dark dust nicely delineate the dense tower of star formation. Energetic radiation of young massive stars are energized gas, so that light, and dust, which with some degree of gas evaporates from the pillars of star formation. Many of these young stars shortly after a few million years to explode and thus in the nebula, from which they were formed, to return part of the substance. As a result of star formation in this area rise to an entire cluster, which is denoted M16.


Noctilucent clouds
Sometimes, when on earth the night, in the air day. In its daily rotation of the Earth eclipses the sun, and then at the horizon we see the sunset. Under normal conditions, the horizon you can see the beautiful sunset and unusual noctilucent clouds, soaring so high that they can be seen long after it becomes quite dark. At today's picture shows a web of noctilucent clouds, enchanting glow which was observed after dusk. The clouds are depicted over a field near the German city of Potsdam. It is believed that noctilucent clouds are composed of small particles coated with ice crust. However, much remains unclear in the nature of these clouds. Among the satellites, which were sent to study these clouds - the Swedish satellite Odin satellite and NASA's "AIM" ( "Study of ice in the mesosphere). According to recent studies, at least some noctilucent clouds formed from water crystals, part of the exhaust from the space shuttle.


Moon illusion
Is the Moon appears larger when it is near the horizon? No - as shown above, the visible size of the moon does not depend on its position in the sky. Ironically, the reason or reasons for the well-known moon illusion of still being discussed. Two major explanations are based on the fact that the objects of the foreground give the impression that the moon is farther away, when it is visible near horizon. Historically, the more popular explanation is that the size of more distant objects appear to us more.
