How to Find Homes That Accept Section 8

With so many people now applying for the government housing program, it can be somewhat frustrating trying to look for homes that accept Section 8. However it is not really that difficult as there are a lot of websites that can help you find them more easily. All you need to do is Google “find Section 8 homes” and a plethora of sites will appear.

Using the Internet to Find Section 8 Homes
Features of these websites vary, but all of them will present you with a list of subsidized housing by state, city or county. This service by the way, is not just available on government websites but other sites too. There you will find lists of Section 8 duplexes, town homes, apartments and other units that are under this program.

Using one of these sites, you can refine your search by number of bedrooms, price, location, within your voucher’s area and other criteria. Some of these sites also allow for searches for government subsidized housing, low cost housing and Section 8 housing.

These websites may not be associated with official websites, but they are designed to help you find residential and government housing that accept vouchers. These websites are frequently updated so that you will find the latest units and complexes that are available for rent. The houses listed in these databases are updated and will accept the vouchers.

Not all Section 8 websites have updated records, so you need to check the site thoroughly. At the same time, some of these sites only indicate housing communities and do not list which are vacant. Many now do however.

Features to Look for
The most important feature of course, is the site must have an updated database that lists the available housing. Of course it also helps if the site has other features like being able to make appointments. This is essential so you will get the opportunity to look up the property so you can determine if its meets the voucher criteria.

There are also many sites that allow you to choose the one you want and then submit your application to the management company that is responsible for vacancy or to the landlord. It should take no more than 2 to 4 business days before you get a response.

What are the Benefits of Section 8?
The reason why this program has become so popular has to do with the fact that it provides housing for those who cannot afford expensive rent. For people who have been displaced by a natural disaster or government action, Section 8 provides them a home. In addition, the housing assistance was designed specifically for the needs of families that are struggling to make ends meet.

Another benefit that comes with Section 8 is that it provides you a sense of security. In addition the unit will be inspected yearly by the HUD so you can be sure that you are not overcharged.

Another nice thing about Section 8 is that the application process is quite clear. As long as your income is 50% less than the average income in the city you are in, your family will be eligible.

In addition, you also need to pass a background check. It also goes without saying that you must be a citizen of the US or that your immigration status is not being questioned.
