Social media: Just social? Just media? No!

Social media, when it was created, was considered to be that type of media which everyone could use to well, get social and communicate with each other. That is not the case now as now, we use social media to do much more than socialize and that is the reason many people have minimized using it. That is because now, social media isn’t social or media. It has become more complex than it was ever before and that’s the problem, we don’t want complex, we want simple because simpler is simply better. 

 

What happened to simplicity?

It was thrown out of the window I suppose. Social media nowadays is so not simple. The simplicity has been taken away and every once in a while, new features are added. Photo sharing, likes, follows and comments were alright but advertisements, pages, groups and things like that have just ruined the use experience. 

 

Why so much change has occurred?

The reason for so much change is very, very simple, money. The money social media owners were earning was not enough and so they had to add more features to attract more audience, and they also started selling places for ads to businesses small or large which is win and win for social media and businesses and lose and lose for the user. In the struggle for money, social media has destroyed itself and has went from social media to something that is not so much social as it is media.

Why is there no social left in social media?

That is because social media has become more media instead of social. You have all your social features like uploading your mood, uploading photos and videos but you have extra features too like games, unnecessary applications, a huge pain which are ads, groups and pages which destroy the whole user experience.

Can something be done?

No, sadly, anything cannot be done against this as the owners of social media websites will have to learn from themselves. They will have to learn from their mistakes and one day hopefully, they will realize what they are doing and they will try to correct their mistakes. They will maybe realize that they have a made a mistake when somewhere in the future people will get to see an application that is simply simple and the developers of the other social media websites will see why they have lost all of their fans and users. 

 

What is social media losing?

At the moment, social media is losing attention from its users and at some point in the future; they will start losing their users too. Maybe then will they understand where they went wrong? 

 

Verdict

In conclusion I would like to state that social media is losing the attention of its users and will soon start to lose its users as it is not giving them what they want and what they want is simply simple simplicity. If they will not be able to provide that to their users in the future, the life of social media is in jeopardy.
