Ounces to Grams Online – Easier Than You Think

Anyone can learn how to convert ounces to grams online. There are a lot of websites designed just for this task. Whether you are a student, a cook or just curious, the web has made calculations easier to do.

Features

If you go online, looking up conversion sites will produce a lot of results. They all perform the same function; the difference is in the interface and other extras they offer. Some websites are bare bones; there is just a field where you type the figures (ounces or grams). Click “convert” and the results will appear below.

Other websites have more detailed features. The conversion tool may have other options. These usually include rounding options and conversion types. Rounding options determine how accurate the results will be in decimals. The conversion type lets you choose from oz to grams or vice versa. Reset and calculate buttons are often included.

Conversion Tables and Guides

Guides are provided for the most commonly used measurements. This reference guide will save you time when calculating. Not all sites have these tables though. You might also see some basic information about grams and ounces (their history, difference from Troy ounce etc).

Free to Use

Most if not all of these sites are free to use. You can convert ounces to grams online at no cost. More and more sites are offering mobile versions of their programs. If you find a site that requires payment, most likely it is software, not web-based. These applications have extra features to justify the cost. You can make conversions into other measurements for example.

Manual Conversions

A single ounce is equal to 28.3495231 grams. For rounded results, just use 28.3 grams. Websites let you choose how precise the results will be. The ounce is widely used in the United States. 1 pound is equal to 16 ounces (oz). The gram is the standard used in the metric system.

To do the manual conversion, pick an object to convert. It can be something you purchased in the grocery. Suppose you bought a 16 oz choco bar. To learn its weight in grams, simply multiply the choco bar ounces by 28.3495. 16 x 28.3495 = 453.592 grams. If you are not sure of the figures, repeat the calculations online.

If you want to do the opposite, multiply grams by 0.353. Suppose you bought an item that weighs in at 62.37 grams. Just multiply it by 0.353 to find the equivalent in ounces. The answer by the way is 2.20 ounces.

Other Information

Here are some other facts to consider. When the metric system was established, the definition of gram was set. It is the water mass inside a cubic centimeter. Keep in mind that the regular (English) ounce is equal to 28.35 grams. A single Troy ounce is equal to 31.10 grams.

If you want to convert Troy ounces, use 0.322 as the multiplier. For example, multiply 62.37 x 0.322 to get the Troy ounce equivalent. The result is 2.01. If you have an item in Troy ounce and want to find their equivalent in grams, multiply the Troy ounce by 31.10. For example, 3.0 Troy ounces x 31.10 = 93.30 grams.

Knowing how to convert ounces to grams online is often necessary for cooks. You will also need to know how it is done if you are from the US going to Europe.
