Green Gifts for Christmas

Christmas is coming and though the days are getting a little shorter this side of the world and there is a little less light about, we all can’t wait for the festivities to begin. Fortunately, there are numerous ways that you can provide a fun stocking filler and impart some environmentally sound gift and some knowledge for Christmas.

Solar toys and gifts provide a quirky and fun way to learn more about solar power and also are simply put – fun toys.

For children, these typical battery free toys are an intriguing prospect and something that provide the perfect stocking filler. Of course, there are also a number of ways in which these sorts of items can be harnessed for adult’s everyday use too. How about replacing your traditional battery powered electric razor, with a solar powered one – no more half shaves, or a portable solar charger – ideal for festivals and those on the run. Solar powered devices can make great little gifts all year round, but have especial purpose at Christmas.

Recycling
Recycled goods can also provide some great ideas for Christmas and in this time of upcycling, such items are very on trend. How about a rubber tyre based men’s belt, which has been melted and moulded down to produce a stylish and cool alternative to leather.

Recycled materials and fabrics are also often used in throws and blankets and made up of a number of different unutilised items. From patchwork quilts to beautiful throws made from leftovers, there are some really wonderful people out there producing some amazing recycled items from fabrics.

Wind Up and Dynamo Items
The power of wind up items is one that has become increasingly utilised and if you have someone in your life who loves getting out and about away from electricity, then these items are ideal. From wind up radios, to chargers for phones, iPods, torches and other similar items; these wind up accessories can be the answer to their prayers. Of course, if you just commute long distances, are a forgetful charger or like gadgets; they’re also a great item to have at hand and the ideal Christmas stocking filler as they’re always going to be of use.

Christmas
Of course, decorations can also be green and there are a wide range of options from solar lights and olive lamps with natural candles, to recycled decorations made from items such as aluminium and cardboard. In fact, your whole Christmas can be quite green if you want it to be and many house hold items can be turned into beautiful Christmas decorations with a little know how and a proficiency in arts and crafts.
So, this Christmas why not give a green gift that can be enjoyed then and all year round.
