Taking a simple jewelry design and adding a new twist can turn basic beading into a work of art! Follow the instructions below to create a unique bib style necklace that will complement your outfit whether it's casual Friday or an elegant evening out. Draw on your inner artist to choose the stones and layout that fit your personal style.
Begin by gathering your supplies together and laying out your materials on the beading board. Here you can use your own ideas to customize the piece and please your inner artist.
Layout the bib section of the necklace on the beading board by starting at the 5 1/2" mark on the left on the lowest three rows of the board and filling each row up to the 5 1/2" mark on the right. If you prefer a longer or shorter necklace, you can add or subtract beads from each row in the bib. Make sure that each of your bib rows matches up on the board!
If you are using one style and color of beads, filling in the rows will be quick. If you have chosen to experiment with multiple colors or styles, take your time to layout the beads in just the right pattern to please your eye.
Now place a 3 to 1 connector to each side of the bib rows, and fill in the upper row of the necklace using approximately 9 more of the 6 mm beads and two of the 4 mm beads you chose on each side, as pictured above.
On one end of each of the 14"-18" strands of wire, tie a loose knot to prevent beads from coming off as you string them.
Completely string the three rows of the bib section of the necklace and lay back down on the beading board.
Take the unknotted end of the middle strand, place a crimp bead on the strand, and string through the middle loop of one of the 3 to 1 connectors. Pass the beading wire back through the crimp bead and three 6mm beads. Pull the wire down until the crimp bead is almost tight against the connector loop. Crimp the bead using the crimping pliers.
Now do the same for the remaining two strands. Then connect the three strands to the other 3 to 1 connector using the same process.
Now take one of the 6" strands of beading wire. String a crimp bead on one end and loop through the open end of one of the 3 to 1 connectors. Loop the wire back through the crimp bead, tighten the wire and crimp the bead.
String your 6 mm beads, 4 mm beads, and a crimp bead on this strand, covering up the loose end of wire. Loop through one end of the toggle clasp. Pass the wire back through the crimp bead and three regular beads. Tighten the wire and crimp.
Repeat this process for the other side of the necklace.
.
Use wire cutters to remove all loose wire ends. Your project is complete!
